Our first Christmas tree...

Yesterday, we got our very first Christmas tree! I know it's a little early, but Rich had the evening off. It was so much fun spending the night listening to holiday music and decorating the tree. It was a little emotional for me at first because I realized it was the first time I had decorated a Christmas tree since my dad died. You see, every year our family tradition was to put on Christmas music and we would spend all evening decorating the tree with my dad. Those are some of the fondest memories I have with him. Before Rich and I bought our house, we lived in a townhouse which was too small for a tree, so this is the first year we have had one since we've been together. I guess as much as we think we are "over" things, sometimes the memories that are no more just sneak up on us. I miss my dad and it makes me sad to think that he is not around to enjoy Zack - - he was a great Papa.
Zack took a long nap and when he woke up, the tree was almost done - - you should have seen the look on his face! His eyes were huge!

"I have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing with this thing."

"OH! Now I get it! You put it on the tree like daddy does!"

Kind of hard to see, but this is what the tree looks like from the front of the house.

The cats love the tree, as you can see. So far, they've been pretty good and non-destructive.
